Accepts PDFOne PDF, up to 50 MBDrop a PDF file here
One PDF, up to 50 MB. Works best on scans and picture-heavy PDFs.
How to compress a PDF
- Select a PDF, or drop it onto the box. On a phone it opens from your Files app.
- Choose Light, Medium or Strong - or Target size, for example 1 MB.
- Press Compress PDF, then download the smaller file.
How your files stay private
Your browser re-compresses the pictures in memory, on your device. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any other website. When you press Start over or close the tab, everything is cleared.
Limits
- One PDF at a time, up to 50 MB
- Black-and-white scans (JBIG2, CCITT) and print-colour (CMYK) pictures are left as they are
- Password-protected or restricted PDFs can't be changed
Questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Your browser re-compresses it on your own device. The file is never sent to our servers or anyone else's.
Which PDFs get much smaller?
Scanned documents and PDFs full of photos - the pictures are usually what makes a PDF big. PDFs that are mostly text are already small and change little.
Will the text get blurry?
No. Only the pictures inside the PDF are re-compressed. Text, fonts and drawings are left exactly as they are, so they stay sharp and searchable.
Can I make it a specific size, like 1 MB?
Yes. Choose Target size. The tool tries the best quality first and lowers it step by step until the file fits. If it can't get that small without making pictures unreadable, it gives you the smallest version and says so.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
Some pictures are stored in types this tool leaves alone - black-and-white scans (JBIG2 or CCITT) and print-colour (CMYK) images - and some PDFs are already well compressed. In that case nothing is changed.
