How to convert an image to another format
- Select one or more images, or drop them onto the box. On a phone you can pick from your photos.
- Choose the new format - WebP, JPG or PNG - and, for WebP and JPG, the quality.
- Press Convert, then download. Several images come as one ZIP file.
How your files stay private
Your browser decodes each image and saves it in the new format, in memory, on your device. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any other website. When you press Start over or close the tab, everything is cleared.
Limits
- Up to 20 images, 25 MB and 50 megapixels each
- JPG, PNG and WebP in and out. HEIC is not supported yet.
- Creating WebP needs a recent Chrome, Edge or Firefox; older Safari versions can only create JPG and PNG
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your browser converts them on your own device. They are never sent to our servers or anyone else's.
Which format should I choose?
WebP gives the smallest files at similar quality and suits websites. JPG works everywhere and suits photos. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and keeps transparency, but files are larger.
Will converting lower the quality?
PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP compress the picture; at High quality the difference is hard to see. Converting back and forth repeatedly loses a little each time, so keep your original.
What happens to transparency?
PNG and WebP keep transparent areas. JPG can't store transparency, so those areas become white.
Is the photo's location kept?
No. The new file is saved from the pixels only, so camera details such as location and date are not copied. Images already in the chosen format are returned unchanged.
